(UPDATED: June 10, 2020)

When you want online therapy, you have a number of options. Like many things in life, you can have many options, but finding the best options can be a challenge. So this blog post is a look at finding the best online therapy. I can tell you as a spoiler that that I am not going to name any specific sites in this blog post. This is more a general post in regards to finding the needed help online for online therapy. Whomever you choose is entirely up to you.

Best Online Therapy Sites

I do tout BetterHelp on "John's Life Space" a lot. However, if you are seeking help for your mental health issues, BetterHelp isn't the only choice. There thankfully isn't a monopoly on what online therapy sites to choose from. Getting the psychiatric help you need shouldn't be a monopoly. You shouldn't have to let choosing a therapy site further complicate any sort of mental health issues you are having. Something I like to say is that you don't solve problems by adding to them. So if you need online therapy, you would much rather find a reliable source than be lost trying to find the best possible solution.

Even though it shouldn't be an issue of trying to find the best possible online therapy, you do want to find online therapy to best suit your needs and your budget. This is especially if you are seeking online therapy. It is also helpful you find certain online therapists that are properly licensed and accredited to assist you. Even if you fear meeting an online therapist that seems sketchy, at least you want to be able to meet someone who can be of worthy service to you. Finding the best online therapy site for you can also pertain to the nature of the site and its atmosphere. There are lots of things to consider in regards to picking the best online therapy site for you.

Final Thoughts.

I realize I am not helping my cause by not declaring one specific service as the best with a topic like this. However, picking the right online therapist should be your call and based on your own research. You need to consider various factors in regards to picking the best possible online therapy site for you. No matter what it takes, there is an online therapy site for you that you will love and may even recommend if you truly enjoy that service.

My job in this blog post is to help you pick the best online therapy site and what to consider in doing so. I did not name any specific ones as the best, as this is not any kind of review blog post. All the hard work and research on online therapy is up to you and you alone. So good luck to you!

Is Online Therapy Effective?

John B. Marine | July 06, 2019 | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: June 10, 2020)

It helps to gain psychiatric help for when faced with mental health issues. Can psychiatric help be effective, even online? This is what I hope to respond to in this blog post in helping provide options for my audience. I will offer my own opinions on this topic to help you decide for yourself if you should take up on online psychiatry, and also I am here to help convince you whether or not to take up online psychiatry to help you in your mental health situations.

LATEST UPDATES/REVISIONS:

JUN 10 2020 - removed some links, edited post

Is Online Psychiatry Effective?

Any sort of psychiatry is effective when faced with mental health issues. When you are unable to get the needed help through a physical psychiatry office to meet with a psychiatrist, all hope is not entirely lost. You can try your hand at getting psychiatric help online. It would not hurt much at all to have psychiatric help online. Regardless, psychiatric help is psychiatric help whether online or offline. The only difference is that you are seeking psychiatric help conveniently as opposed to visiting with a psychiatrist in a physical office.

I think the reason people may put off or disregard online psychiatry are of many reasons, perhaps mostly the anonymous factor. It is completely understandable. One would rather be in close contact with a psychiatrist in person and gaining the needed help. If you are skittish about if online psychiatry is less effective than going to a real psychiatrist, then let us look at factors to help you at least consider online psychiatry. Think about shopping for a moment. If there was something special you want to buy, you could visit a store, a shopping center, or a mall to buy. But what if what you want to buy is not sold at a store near you? You can take up online shopping if applicable. Online shopping means you will not have to put up with parking or annoying people. Same applies for online psychiatry. Some people are unable to get quality psychiatric help and be able to access a physical office and meet with a psychiatrist in person. So when you are unable to access a real psychiatrist, your next best option is to consider online psychiatry to get the help you need.

Reasons Why Online Psychiatry Can Be Effective.

I can think of two reasons why online psychiatry can be as good as or better than non-online psychiatry. Consider the following...

• For one, I think online psychiatry is effective because if you are unable to appear in a physical office of a psychiatrist, he/she can still assist you through a number of sessions from a distance. You are still getting the needed help from a licensed and certified psychiatrist.

• The other reason why I think online psychiatry is effective is for financial reasons. Professional help costs money; and so when you may not have as much finances to get the best possible help, you are perhaps better off getting psychiatric help from whatever fine psychiatrist you can contact and within your budget. You might even be saving some money through online psychiatry by not having to worry about gas prices or any travel expenses.

Now that you've seen me discuss online psychiatry and its effectiveness, allow me to provide final thoughts for you all. So go to the next section.

Is Online Psychiatry Effective? Final Thoughts

Online psychiatry can just as effective as non-online psychiatry. If you can not afford to visit a physical psychiatrist at his/her physical office, you can still get the needed psychiatric help through online psychiatry. I look at this issue more along the lines of getting the needed help even if you are unable to access an actual office or be able to pay for the services. Getting the help you need is what is most important to get back to living a healthy and normal life. In this instance, you want to take whatever measures needed to try to make recovery happen. While it may be true you could get psychiatric help anywhere, even online, it all works best with a fully accredited and licensed psychiatrist to help you with your mental health issues. So consider all of your options when looking at psychiatric help- even including online psychiatry. And yes- online psychiatry is as effective as non-online psychiatry.

Heat Safety

John B. Marine | June 23, 2019 | Be the first to comment!
The warm weather times can make for a number of different issues. For many people, these are times of wearing shorts and sandals, cooling off in pools, and things like that. This blog post pertains to various warm weather considerations to take into account. I am hopeful this blog post is as useful to you as any of my others here on "John's Life Space."

NOTE: This is not a professional post regarding hot weather safety. Instead, it is more a general digest. Consult more proper organizations for more professional tips regarding heat safety.

About the Label: "Health and Fitness"

This blog post features insight on general health and fitness. These are posts more concerned with either general health, or they may include certain insights on exercise and fitness.

Heat Safety

I am only featuring this image to help identify this blog post. Still, let's go to work...

heat safety
^ from: (Protective Insurance) - This blog post is all about staying safe in times of warm/hot weather.

As a native of Houston, Texas, USA; times can be unbearably hot here in Texas. Most places in the American south and southeast are usually quite hot during late Spring to even late Summer. It is therefore imperative to understand the dangers of dealing with heat.

There are resources for heat safety later in this blog post. For now, take a look at the following talking points in regards to heat safety.

Heat Safety: Clothing.

Some of the most basic things to consider when dealing with heat is to dress appropriately. During warm weather times or hot days, the standard is to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Short bottoms or short one-piece outfits are the norm. Footwear such as sandals can provide open-air comfort as you go about your life.

It helps to wear either a cap or a hat to keep your head cool. If you are going to be outdoors where you will be in the sun a lot (such as at the beach or in certain sports stadiums that do not have any kind of covering), you may want to get a big straw hat to shield your head and the back of your neck.

To protect your eyes from the brightness of the sun, be sure to wear some sunglasses or have sunglass clips if you wear regular glasses. Not all sunglasses are created equal. Be sure to look for proper sunglasses that offer optimal protection for your eyes.

It also helps to cover yourself with sunscreen lotion to protect your skin from damaging sun rays. Look for sunscreen that offers the most protection with SPF. One case you want to avoid is getting sunburn. At the most extreme cases, you could develop skin cancer due to excessive heat leaving your skin unprotected from harmful UV rays.

Heat Safety: Hydration.

It is important you stay hydrated on very warm or hot days. You could suffer from dehydration if you don't drink enough fluids. It is recommended you drink water or even sports drinks. The rate of dehydration may be accelerated if you drink things such as soft drinks or any sort of alcoholic beverages. So while caffeinated drinks and alcohol can be a good way to prevent thirst, they may do more harm than good when dealing with warm or hot weather.

NOTE: In regards to alcohol, PLEASE do not consume alcohol if you are not of legal age to drink alcoholic beverages.

Heat Safety: Vehicles.

One of the most dangerous things in regards to heat is dealing with the heat in vehicles. Commonly, you hear of hot car deaths involving babies and children left in vehicles dying of heat exhaustion. The temperature inside of a vehicle can be much greater than the ambient air temperature outside. Hot car deaths can be easily prevented. If you feel you are in a place where you are in for a while, be sure to head back to your vehicle and check on your child(ren). Or if you are in a place where it is okay for you to have your child(ren) come along, then bring your child(ren) with you to get out of the heat. Make sure children are properly hydrated and well equipped to take on hot days.

Heat Safety: Activities.

People who must work out in the heat need to take special precautions to stay safe. I especially think of firefighters and even construction workers as an example of those who have to be out in the heat working. If you involved in an occupation that involves exposing yourself to outdoor heat, you will need to take breaks often and rehydrate yourself to avoid dehydration.

Those who play sports or exercise out in the heat also have to take measures to avoid heat exhaustion. Another issue in warm weather can involve players getting cramps from the heat. Make sure to have water or sports drinks at the ready while playing. Be sure to take breaks to keep your body refreshed. I remember hearing about one game in Major League Soccer where it was so hot that the game had scheduled breaks to keep the soccer players hydrated. If you are a parent or relative of youth athletes, be sure to take measures to ensure your child or children are okay when playing sports out in hot weather.

Heat Safety: Pets.

Look after your pets during hot days. They can suffer as much as humans do under hot conditions. Some animals do have their own routines to deal with hot weather, but you should do your part to help keep your pets healthy and hydrated in hot weather.

Final thoughts coming up.

Heat Safety: Final Thoughts

Dealing with heat can be dangerous. So make sure you take care of yourself and others when dealing with intense heat. Please do your part to try to take care of yourself and others. The best things you can do are to stay hydrated and also take breaks if needed. I find it most important to stay hydrated. Do not forget to also take care of your children and pets in warm/hot weather. They suffer as much in these times as you do. We can not change the weather, but we can surely adapt to remain safe and healthy.

Heat Safety Resources.

I love that people are using my "Helpful Resources" page for online resources regarding various life and health issues. I may add these to my "Helpful Resources" also. Take a look at these for online resources regarding heat safety:

Extreme Heat | Ready.gov

Sleep

John B. Marine | June 11, 2019 | Be the first to comment!
Continually working hard is great, but we all need to rest at some point. How much sleep from naps and proper sleep is also important. Getting rest will help us to stay strong and return refreshed. So this post is on sleep. My only request... don't fall asleep on me trying to gain advice!

Sleep

Before discussing sleep, here is a picture to set the mood:

sleep
^ from: www.helpguide.org (best I could find) - Work hard every day, but you still need sleep and rest.

As important as being active is, we all need to rest to reserve our energy and be ready to take on challenges again with refreshed energy. Sleep make this happen. Anything from a simple nap to getting quality sleep will help make our bodies and our minds become refreshed to take on any number of tasks again. We need these moments to regain our energy so that we do not suffer any real health issues later. The last thing you would want is to keep overworking yourself to unhealthy levels.

In addition to trying to regain energy, sleep can also help you if you are sick or hurt. We sometimes need sleep just to recover from sickness or any sort of injury. Let us talk a bit about the finer points of sleep:

Naps.

A simple nap offers up gaining rest for a mostly short amount of time before getting back into the thick of things. Most naps usually are between about 30 minutes to maybe an hour. Be careful if a regular nap ends up feeling like a proper time of sleep! You don't want any unexpected power nap. Speaking of which...

Proper Sleep.

I am labeling "proper sleep" as when you go to bed for hours on end for when you take on the day/night again. In other words, an example of proper sleep is going to bed at night so you can get ready for work or school the next morning. It is usually recommended getting at least five or more hours of sleep.

These are just a few things to consider in regards to sleep. Now for some more things to consider...

Sleep Barriers

There is nothing wrong with getting sleep. However, there are some who may misconstrue getting sleep with being lazy. There is a huge difference between the two. Being lazy simply implies getting more rest and doing next to nothing rather than make something happen. Getting some kind of sleep is needed to stay active and be refreshed afterwards. Getting that sleep can come at a few costs, and that is where this section on sleep comes in.

Distractions.

Getting the rest you need can come at the price of distractions, which can be quite common. Anything from phone calls, loud noise, bad weather, and things of that nature can hinder getting sufficient sleep. Children and others you may live with can also be distractions in trying to get the needed sleep. So if you can, try to limit distractions as much as you can.

Sleep Posture.

Some people don't get the needed sleep because of some poor posture while sleeping. Some sleep on their back, some on their sides, and some others even sleep on their front. A proper way to sleep can depend on your posture, and knowing what works best for you can help in getting the adequate amount of sleep necessary. If you have certain health problems, you are going to change your sleep posture to suit whatever issue(s) you are facing. For example, a pregnant woman may have to consider sleeping in certain positions to stay healthy while also making sure not to suffer having some sort of failed pregnancy.

Having the Right Sleeping Conditions.

Perhaps what hinders you from getting the needed sleep can be with having the proper conditions or items for sleep. Some people may need certain things like having a room at the certain temperature to sleep better. Some people may even need to have a decent mattress set for which to sleep better. These things affect getting real sleep more than most casual naps, but it is important to get sleep any way you can wherever you may be.

Certain Health Conditions.

Some sleep conditions, such as sleep apnea, can limit getting proper sleep. You may want to consult with a doctor if you are having trouble sleeping due to certain health ailments. As unpleasant as it sounds, snoring can be a hindering element of trying to get the most sleep possible. Such loud noises trying to sleep can be rather hurtful. Snoring can be unhealthy. Mental health matters like depression can also deter your ability to sleep properly. Any sort of health issues you may have regarding trying to get proper sleep will need to be addressed properly so you can get the proper sleep you need.

And one last sleep barrier...

Knowing When to Sleep.

You don't want to fall asleep when you are trying to accomplish something. Some people often feign sleep because they want to keep trying at something or still have something fresh in their minds. If there is a task that needs to be complete, you want to stay awake for as long as you can. Certain things may or may not be too important to want to stay awake. Like for example, playing certain video/computer games or watching certain media. You also want to avoid falling asleep from being overly weak while working or operating a vehicle. Just make sure to know what is worth staying awake for so you don't end up mentally and physically paying the price later on.

Consider these and other factors in regards to sleep.

Sleep: Final Thoughts

Get some sleep. Get the right amount of sleep. Know when to get rest. Sleep is as important as trying to go through life as best as you can. Get the needed rest for when you truly have to get yourself rest. Don't overlook this by any stretch.

Depending on interest from others, I may add sleeping resources that might help you in any future edits. For now, though, I hope you found this post useful.

I hope you have yourself a great day/night. Thanks for visiting! "John's Life Space" is all about various life issues and some insight on health. I am doing all I can to enhance this blog and its material. Please appreciate my efforts. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Family Counseling

John B. Marine | May 03, 2019 | | Be the first to comment!
I am blessed to be part of a family where we aren't at each others' throats. However, some families and family members can't seem to get along for whatever reason(s). You may want to consider meeting with a family counselor if you can't settle your differences for free. This blog post is a discussion on bringing families together and even in trying to find a family counselor. I hope this post helps at least someone in this situation. Then again, I hope I am helping others with ALL of my posts on "John's Life Space."

Family Counseling

family counseling
^ from: www.peggybolcoa.com - When you can't settle family matters on your own, you may want to consider consulting with a family counselor.

When you usually see families, you usually see them happy and content. Not all families can get together happily, though. One thing to try to bring families together is to seek professional help from a family counselor. If you are unable to patch up differences in your family for free, then it wouldn't hurt to try to get family counseling to try to bring everyone together. Families are not supposed to fight each other or have significant differences among them. Certainly differences that lead to violence are things that have to be considered and talked about with a family counselor.

Your family should be your absolute best friends. They know you more and love you more than almost any friend you make in your life. Some people even consider family members as their best friends. So when family members can not seem to get along, it is an utter shame. Families who are in crisis are not just limited to sibling rivalries. Often times, certain relatives can't seem to get along, or maybe there's that one (or maybe more than one) family member who always seems to stir the pot and drive others crazy. In these cases, it helps to have someone try to iron out differences among other people.

If you do consider the route of getting professional help from a family counselor, be sure to have the finances to fund having sessions with a family counselor. You can try to look up local listings to find the nearest family counselor in your area. You may also look up online resources like Regain to find family counselors.

Why Families Fail to Get Along?

Any number of reasons can be the cause of why families have such disputes.

Can Family Counseling Help?

Well, it wouldn't hurt. Would you rather get along with your family or keep having disputes with one another? Some things in life you will have to spend money to try to live a better life.

Now on to some final thoughts.

Family Counseling: Final Thoughts

If your family can't get along and you feel help is needed to try to bring everyone together happily, then you are best served to consult a family counselor. Families should be like families- not strangers or savages. Not every family is properly equipped and composed of fine chemistry. For families in crisis or could use some help getting together peacefully, a session or more with a family counselor can help improve the bonds of families from imploding more than most disputed families may already be. You can have all the friends you want to make, but the best friends you can make are your family, and losing your family can have you feeling like you have nothing at all.

Resources.

I have been offered this resource to help you in case you need to find a family counselor, and also why you may need to consult with a family counselor if you are having family problems. Take a look:

Family Counseling on Regain

I may provide more resources if I find any. Or, you may contact me online with relevant and useful resources my readers and visitors can benefit from.

I hope you are able to keep your family together if they are at dispute. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Special Occasions Ruined

John B. Marine | April 28, 2019 | | | | | Be the first to comment!
There are some days you look forward to and prepare for- a birthday, an anniversary, some party, a special event, etc. Then for some reason, it is ruined. Some occasions are seen as once-in-a-lifetime occasions; and if/when they are ruined, we feel what is supposed to be a time of happiness ends up producing more excuses as to why life is not worth enjoying. The level of importance of certain ruined special occasions lead us to why we either like or dislike certain moments in life. So what do you do when certain events of happiness are ruined? I will try to offer my thoughts in this post here on "John's Life Space."

Special Occasions Ruined

Certain enjoyable occasions are meant to be just that- enjoyable. However, various influences cause days of happiness to be ruined for whatever reason. Certain moments are meant to be treasured for a long time to come- and hopefully for all the RIGHT reasons. What happens when such projected times of happiness get ruined?

The Psychology of Special Occasions.

From parties to celebrations to ceremonies, we all have times we want to remember and celebrate. When such moments are ruined, we feel there will never be a second chance to enjoy certain times. Think about maybe an Elementary School student performing and wants to see his/her mother and/or father in attendance enjoying the performance. Imagine someone wanting a certain gift for Christmas but unable to get it. Think of someone's birthday party being ruined because of some kind of violence or an overall horrible experience. If someone is graduating, someone wishes a family member or his/her family will be there to see him/her gain recognition and respect for graduating. When not everything goes well, times feel terrible. If someone is about to get married, a lover hopes that the wedding doesn't get called off, or even if at the wedding party, someone gets dumped or decides not to marry the other person. If a mother is ready to give birth, it would be ruined if the father doesn't show up or if the mother suffers some kind of failed pregnancy. We all wish we can enjoy certain moments without any kind of problems. Moments where we can enjoy ourselves or celebrate something should go without hitches. Life, however, gets in the way.

If certain things are not happening or if certain people don't show their loving support, an occasion feels ruined. We always want everything to go smoothly. An opportunity seems missed when things do not go according to plan, or when the desired outcome is not reached. Everything from times as simple as ruined parties to more extreme cases like acts of terror at functions are subject to times being ruined.

What to Do in Times of Ruined Special Occasions?

You hope times go well so you wouldn't be grieving or feeling depressed. It helps to have a support system to help console you in times of ruined happiness. Unfortunate things happen. You can't expect everything to go well. If it is something outside of your control, you did everything you could to make the occasion a great one. Things just did not go your way or as you hoped. If what occasion you wanted to take part in can be done something again another time, just prepare a future date and hope things go better the next time. Most of all, remain positive. You can certainly try again with certain things. For moments like graduation, giving birth, weddings, or anything like that; you may never get to experience such occasions ever again. Life goes on even if you do not get to experience certain things you were hoping for or wanted to experience. It is just unfortunate that what could have been a happy time for you had to result in something less than what you were hoping for. Just move on with your life and try to remain happy. If you can not get your happiness up, have someone help you be happy again.

If you are the victim of a certain crime that occurred during such special occasions, you must try to get in touch with authorities or law enforcement. Try to tell your story and seek justice for certain crimes committed to you. If a family member, friend, or loved one is the victim of a special occasion ruined by somebody else, contact authorities or law enforcement to act on the behalf of your family, friends, and/or loved one(s).

If a special occasion has been ruined thanks to natural disasters or things outside of your control, just know it wasn't your fault. You or nobody you know influenced a certain event to be a failure to you. Unfortunate things happen. It would be pointless for you to (for example) blame weather conditions for ruining an occasion, as if weather is supposed to cooperate with you. There are even times when special occasions ruined outside of your control Maybe such a special occasion ruined by something out of your control was ruined because of malfunctions. For example, let's say there was a party on some sort of boat or watercraft, and then the boat collapses or capsizes. Maybe a party takes place in a building or structure not sturdy. There was one moment at a condo near a certain university when a party happened to where the floor of a condo near a university collapsed, leaving people fall from that floor to the ground level. Maybe you are enjoying a certain special occasion in a carnival-like setting until a ride malfunctions. Maybe some kids are enjoying being in a bouncy house until the bouncy house deflates or some kind of injury happens. Certain things happen at certain times, and it is to no fault of your own. In another sense, you can't blame promoters of a party or a certain individual(s) for ruining your experience because of an event being canceled at the last moment or certain individuals being sick, injured, or even dead.

Final Thoughts.

A lot of different special occasions can be ruined by any number of means or reasons. If it is something caused by others, it can be entirely damaging if someone else ruined what should be a time to enjoy and be free. If the special occasion is ruined because of factors outside of your control, it is surely unfortunate something didn't go your way because of something you can't control. You just have to know that you may or may not get a chance to celebrate a certain occasion or a certain moment again. Do not entirely feel are unable to be happy or enjoy life because of such ruined events.

Certain things happen at certain times, and it is to no fault of your own. In another sense, you can't blame promoters of a party or a certain individual(s) for ruining your experience because of an event being canceled at the last moment or certain individuals being sick, injured, or even dead.

Most important thing to do in all of these times is to remain hopeful and happy. You were looking forward to some sort of happy time, but that happy time was denied for whatever reason(s). Not everything goes according to plan. Not every moment goes in a favorable outcome. It is life. Do not stress too much over certain moments or lament missed opportunities. These are all moments that help shape our lives for better or worse.

The most important thing to remember with blog posts like this is that I design these posts with the intent of helping someone who may want the help. I love (or at least respect) everyone who comes through seeking some sort of guidance and help through various life issues. Peer Pressure

John B. Marine | April 28, 2019 | | | | Be the first to comment!
Peer pressure is about other people trying to push you into doing things you otherwise do not want to do. It involves doing things to try to please others at the expense of embarrassing yourself or putting your health in jeopardy. Is it worth stressing yourself to try to appease to certain individuals? It mostly depends on the issue at hand and the challenge to try to complete. Peer pressure usually involves trying to do things so you can be better judged by people. This post

Sometimes when I think of peer pressure, I think of some Twitch stream chats. A streamer may sometimes ask for advice when playing a game. Someone may end up suggesting something completely weak or try to make a game harder than it actually is (or harder than it should be). Surely people have the obligation to try to appeal to as many people as possible. However, one can never please everyone. In some peoples' minds, not doing something right or not doing something to a level someone wants something to be done makes one person a failure. If you try to please everyone, you have already failed. Not everyone is going to enjoy you and your work. You wish you could have more people love you and your work; but like anything in life, you will have your fair share of people think poorly of you no matter how much you try to please as many people as possible.

Some examples of peer pressure feature dangerous or damaging acts to be committed. You may be pressured by peers to do something like damage property, pull a prank, or do something you don't believe in or want to do. If you do not accomplish these tasks, people will think of you less and regard you less than who you really are. As an example, let's say you were pressured by peers to smoke cigarettes or cigars. Or maybe you are pressured into chugging alcoholic beverages. You feel you have to accomplish these tasks so you would be properly respected by certain individuals. Failing to meet demands makes you feel like you failed certain peers. So the thought of peer pressure means you HAVE to do certain things in order to win the respect of certain people. This is no fact that you do things based on what YOUR interests and thoughts are as opposed to trying to please certain peers. Also, let's pretend you accomplished peer pressure tasks like smoking or drinking too much alcohol. You end up risking your own health trying to make certain people happy. Are you sure you want that kind of peer pressure in your life?

What makes peer pressure so stressing an issue is the feeling you are under constant pressure to perform well among those around you. Others would feel disappointed about you or would think of you in ways opposite of how you really are. You would feel disappointed if you feel you failed to impress certain individuals you want to impress most. This would especially be true if this was someone intimate to you- namely your family members or a loved one. On the other hand, what if those individuals you tried to impress most were students in your class, people you work with, or fans of yours in live streaming? The one thing you would have to concentrate on is who or what exactly are you trying to accomplish in performing any sort of act. Are you trying to appeal to a greater audience, or are you trying to simply do what you can no matter what anyone thinks? Peer pressure says you have an obligation to please everyone because you want people to think positively of you. If you don't have such peer pressure, then you are doing whatever you can with little or no interest in meeting certain peoples' needs or wishes.

Final Thoughts.

Before you try to do anything to anyone or with anyone, consider who all you are trying to impress. You don't have to please everyone, and not everyone will love you or your work. You shouldn't have to do anything opposite of your personality or beliefs just to appease certain individuals. Peers should have to acknowledge and recognize everyone is different. It is not possible to convert everyone to be "like everyone else." Don't mold yourself to meet someone else's standards. You know who you are what you are capable of- why let somebody else define you? You can not please everyone; and even if you tried, you will still have your fair share of critics. So it is best to just be yourself and not let anyone else judge you unfairly. Just remember who is more important in your life and what matters more to you than what society wants you to be.

That's it! You made it through another "John's Life Space" post! Care to discuss this topic?

How do you deal with peer pressure? Have you experienced any moments of peer pressure? If so, what did you have to do and how did you fare with peer pressure?

Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Promiscuous Youth

John B. Marine | April 16, 2019 | | | Be the first to comment!
Being young and promiscuous is a nightmare for parents. Promiscuous youth engage in violence, sex, drinking, smoking, and the like before age 18. They may even be rebellious towards their family and school faculty. In fact, some of these youth may have dropped out of school or simply stop going to school. The fear in these promiscuous youth is that they will suffer some kind of potentially permanent setback that ruins their lives for the rest of their lives. That is why certain people are reluctant to try to get such promiscuous youth under control as much as possible to prevent having an unhappy future. This blog post is a discussion about dealing with promiscuous youth.

Promiscuous Youth: a General Digest.

Mostly in the 1990s, daytime talk shows such as "Maury" and "The Jenny Jones Show" have featured out-of-control teens (and even out-of-control children). When such individuals don't get their way from parents or other family members, they resort to violence. Such promiscuous youth even are proud of being the school bully or even proud of abusing peers at school. Some promiscuous youth even think they know everything and need not go to school any longer. Especially promiscuous girls dress up in sexy and revealing clothing just to show they are grown adults. Some promiscuous types even somehow get their hands on tobacco and alcoholic drinks. They even open themselves towards sex and wild parties. Many promiscuous youth swear they love their parents. However, they (for lack of a better term) show their "love" by abusing their parents and family members physically, mentally, and verbally.

As you can imagine, parents of such promiscuous children and teens are usually worried sick. Some need help to try to tame such wild children. A fear of such parents is that a promiscuous youth will either catch some life-altering disease or end up being killed. In the case of a promiscuous girl, things like pregnancy scares and such will worry most parents.

Because adolescents and children can be abusive, that's why I labeled this blog post about promiscuous youth and not necessarily promiscuous teenagers. Now that you know a little about what I am trying to make mention to, it is my objective to try to help people with their situation(s) regarding this topic. So let's talk about trying to turn around troubled youth, both as parents and for the promiscuous youth themselves.

Video Insight.

To demonstrate the idea of out-of-control youth, I featured this video below. This gives you an idea of what some promiscuous youth can be like. WARNING: This material may not be suitable for all audiences:

^ I get straight A's...So I can do whatever I want! | The Maury Show

So this video gives you an idea of promiscuous youth.

How Do You Turn Around Promiscuous Youth?

On daytime talk shows, there were people who would take away their out-of-control children to scare them straight by taking them to jail. These would be moments in which the promiscuous children get a glimpse of where they are heading towards if they don't turn their lives around. Some parents may even try taking away certain liberties or habits from such out-of-control children. Or, and if you're old-fashioned like myself, there is one other true option- spanking. The only problem is that today's culture thinks spanking your children is child abuse. However, for old-fashioned types, it is sometimes the most effective method to turn around people despite it being such a questionable act.

Here is a resource for you parents dealing with this situation: Out of Control Teenager Tips and Advice

How to Turn Around Yourself, If You Are a Promiscuous Youth?

So what if you are reading this and you admit to being grown as a promiscuous child or teen? You basically don't care what your parents or any other authority figures think about you. The fact is that you will one day get hit with reality and realize you still have a lot of your life ahead of you. You live only once, and almost every decision you make will impact your life forever. You can tell me "YOLO" (you only live once) all you want and think you are invincible and impervious to almost anything; however, what happens when (not if) you get into a situation you can't squirm your way out of?

You are basically putting extra pressure on yourself by engaging in these questionable acts. Most promiscuous types later in their lives would probably enroll in some Adult High School program to get their GED. What some may have already accomplished much earlier in life is what certain former promiscuous youth may soon accomplish. Promiscuous teens need not worry early on in life about wanting to be a mother. Parenthood is a lifelong responsibility, so do not get involved in this if you are not reluctant to devote your life towards raising a child.

Final Thoughts.

It can be tough to try to turn around troubled youth. It becomes mind-boggling how one's own children can overpower his/her/their parents with violence. Do not give up in trying to teach youth right from wrong. I don't advocate or encourage this, but if you have to in trying to turn around troubled youth and want to take an extreme measure (and this is going to a VERY unpopular opinion of mine)- don't be afraid to spank your children. Just don't take the spanking punishment to child abuse levels.

As for the promiscuous youth themselves, the one thing you must realize is that the decisions you make in your young life could impact you for the rest of your life. So if you make a decision that is potentially dangerous, it will impact you for the rest of your life. Certain other decisions may even affect your health or even kill you. Make sure you know full well what you are getting into.

That's all from me. I might add some extra resources to help people who may be in this situation based on this blog post and its subject matter.

This was a tough topic, but I did what I could to bring light to promiscuous youth. How about a little discussion?

How do you (as a parent or family member) help a promiscuous youth? How do you (as a promiscuous youth) turn around your violent and suggestive ways?

Autism

John B. Marine | April 02, 2019 | | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: April 8, 2019)

Autism is a medical condition that can adversely impact one's mental and social skills. Various influences in conjunction with autism can affect learning and actions. I will try to bring autism to light with this blog post. PLEASE do not take this post as a definitive resource on autism, because I do not know enough about autism to professionally discuss it. So this is more instead a digest on autism.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

APR 9 2019 - added an extra resource

Austism

I don't know everything about autism. Do not look at this post as a definitive look at autism. Let's still talk about autism here on "John's Life Space."

Autism Awareness
^ from: physioguru.com - "Always Unique Totally Intelligent Sometimes Mysterious."

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) involves a number of personal traits that result in problems communicating with others, repetitive behaviors, and more. It involves things such as elaborately explaining things in fancy ways while also having photographic memory of things. Pictures I've seen shown autism meaning "Always Unique Totally Intelligent Sometimes Mysterious." Males are more likely to have autism than females. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 1 in every 59 children are diagnosed with autism. Much like most cancers or certain diseases, if autism detected early in children, then things can properly be arranged to help treat autism or autistic symptoms. There is no cure for autism at present.

To my knowledge, I have no memory of being formally diagnosed with autism. I do admit there have been times where I have elaborately described things to others. I sometimes explain things in elaborate and creative ways. I sometimes showcase things in elaborate and creative ways. But again, to my knowledge, I have never formally been diagnosed with autism.

Autism is usually detected and acknowledged among children more than adults.

For More Information...

I am not adept in autism. When it comes to resources to help you understand autism better, I have provided the following links to this blog post. Take a look at these resources to learn more about autism:

I may provide more resources of interest if I can find some more helpful resources on autism.

I hope you liked this post. Maybe I did enough to convince you in regards to making awareness to autism. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Rape

John B. Marine | March 09, 2019 | | | | Be the first to comment!

WARNING:
The following topic may not be suitable for all audiences. Due to the subject matter of this topic, viewer discretion is advised. Parents of younger children will need to restrict or limit younger viewers from viewing this material. Otherwise, you are reading this material at your own risk.

Rape is sexual contact against the will of others. It is a despicable crime involving unnecessary and unsolicited sexual contact by sex offenders. The trauma and fear after getting raped could be damaging for a long time to come. If you are or become a rape victim, your life could be changed forever. This blog post concerns dealing with rape.

About the Label: "Crimes"

Acts punishable by law fall under the "Crimes" label. These are posts regarding certain crimes that can change peoples' lives forever. These involve a handful of actions ranging from simple cases such as theft, or more extreme cases such as hate crimes or terrorism. Because these actions by other people can adversely affect peoples' lives, they are featured as topics on "John's Life Space."

Rape

Rape involves unsolicited, unwanted sexual abuse towards others. It is a type of violence which involves sexually abusing others against their will. The methods of rape usually include sexual contact or sexual intercourse to unsuspecting individuals. What could happen after getting raped could scar someone for life. Namely, a rape victim could contract a sexually-transmitted disease (STD), become pregnant, or anything of that nature. So anyone who has been raped will need to act quickly to regain some sort of normalcy as quickly as possible.

One time in person, a friend of mine in college was raped. She was shy telling me of her pain. She didn't tell me out loud or anything because she was so panic-stricken. According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), an American is sexually assaulted every 92 seconds; and of every nine minutes, a child is raped. Once you get raped, it becomes difficult to try to live your life normally. Needless to say, rape hits people pretty hard and in many different ways.

Who is At Risk of Rape?

Nearly anyone can be a rape victim. These incidents can happen in various heterosexual and homosexual romantic settings. Rape can happen among family members and immediate family members. Sexual abuse among family members and relatives is what is called incest. Rape in its own right is a despicable crime; even more disgusting is child rape, where children becomes victims of rape thanks to sex offenders. Rape can even happen among married couples. This is what is referred to as marital rape. While intimacy among married couples is good, it is unacceptable to sexually abuse one's significant other without the consent of that significant other. When there are multiple individuals who commit rape towards someone, this is gang rape, and it is worse than being raped by just one individual. It takes two or more individuals to gang rape someone. If you drink alcohol, there is a possibility someone may buy a drink for someone... but then put in date rape drugs in the drink to make someone feel weak, making it easier for a would-be sex offender to commit sexual assault to that person. So as you can see, rape can happen to anyone in any setting.

What to Do if Raped?

You certainly need to be mindful of feeling strange or anything if you have been raped. If you have been raped, immediately contact police and file a report. You may also want to meet with your doctor to see if you may have contracted a sexually-transmitted disease (STD). Also, you may want to take a pregnancy test in the possibility that you could have become pregnant by the rapist(s).

In the United States, rape is handled differently among different states. An organization called RAINN has defined a number of situations to determine what is and isn't considered proper cases of rape. You will need to act quickly and aggressively to handle your situation in such a time of crisis. Because of the enormity of the aftermath of being raped, few are actually courageous enough to report cases of rape. In fact, between 20% to 25% of actual rape cases are reported to police.

Allow me now to offer some final thoughts.

Rape: Final Thoughts

Rape is a despicable crime involving unwanted and unsolicited sexual violence among others against their will. It is a damaging act that can scar people for the rest of their lives. Effects such as contracting an STD or possibly females becoming pregnant can result from the actions of being raped. If you become a rape victim, act quickly to seek justice as well as make sure you are in good health. Do not be afraid to speak up after being raped. Do not be among the many whose rape reports are not reported to police. ACT QUICKLY. NOW.

Resources.

If you want assistance in regards to rape, here is a resources for you to use:

RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network)

If I find other resources, I will add them to my list of available resources to you. Alternatively, you can contact me if you have any relevant resources that can be of good use to all of my readers based on any of my topics in this topic or any other.

I hope bringing awareness to rape will help to limit this as much as possible. Any blog post of mine on any topic will not guarantee curbing of the issue, but at least knowing and understanding certain issues will help bring the issue to light along with ways to handle certain situations. Care to discuss? Let's do so:

Have you or anyone you know been raped? How would you handle being raped, or how did you handle being raped (if you are a rape victim)?

I am here to bring certain life issues to light and offer advice where need be. That's what I do on "John's Life Space." Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.
