Birthday Blues

John B. Marine | January 14, 2020 | | Be the first to comment!
(UPDATED: November 3, 2021)

Celebrating a birthday should be fun and enjoyable. After all- you have lived another year of your life and are ready to start a new one at a higher age! Some people, though, feel sad (or at least nervous) at celebrating another birthday. This is what we like to call having the "birthday blues." The "birthday blues" can be enough to bring someone down in an occasion that should be rather fun and festive.

January 15 is my own birthday! So while I am awaiting my actual birthday to come, I figured I'd blog about the birthday blues here.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

NOV 3 2021 - added extra resource

Birthday Blues

I want to set the mood with a picture.

birthday blues

^ from: sovcal.com - Birthdays are supposed to be joyous occasions, but they can sometimes depress people.

A birthday is a joyous occasion to take part in. One's birthday should be a celebration of living a full year and starting a new one. Especially any birthday where you can finally take on newer responsibilities should be embraced. For example, turning 18 or 21 in the United States allows you certain extra freedoms. Young ladies in Latin cultures who celebrate quinceañeras also have something special to celebrate.

By these things, a birthday should be an enjoyable occasion. However, they are not as joyous for some people. It is a weird case involving birthdays. For one thing, being older means you are able to enjoy certain freedoms; but on the other hand, being older just makes you feel older and make you miss what freedoms you had when you were younger. Some older people end up feel sad about being young and youthful. Some older people even feel sad about birthdays because they do not know how much longer they have to live. It is almost to say that each birthday makes some feel like the end of their lives just inch closer and closer. We all know we can't live forever. Something like birthdays can make us feel older than we actually are.

One of the reasons why people often dread birthdays is because some look back on their lives and feel disappointed they haven't accomplished too much at their previous age. Maybe some others wish they accomplished more at a younger age when a birthday happens. There is still a lot to be desired as people get older. If someone has the birthday blues feeling bad about not accomplishing certain things at a younger age, it may be possible to motivate someone to accomplish certain things in the future that one could not accomplish in the past. Getting older may also mean pushing to do certain things like find love, move to a new location, start a new job, start a family, or anything like that. A potential pitfall to having this kind of thinking in advance of a birthday is the feeling of one is running out of time in life to enjoy certain liberties or opportunities. It means some people feel they have to "hurry up" and experience certain things before dying. This only adds extra stress to someone trying to live a great life. There are some things you probably will never get to experience that you probably could have enjoyed in the past, such as a prom or having a yearbook. You just have to move on and make due with what life you have at present.

I'll try to offer some final thoughts next.

Birthday Blues: Final Thoughts

While birthdays are worth celebrating, birthdays themselves do not always reflect happiness for some people who deal with the "birthday blues." Birthdays make some people feel older and further get driven away from being young and youthful. Feeling older only makes some people feel more disappointed than happy. It is great to get loving support from family and friends from when it is your birthday. Enjoy birthdays and enjoy celebrating another year of your life. Even if you are of an advanced age, you should be thankful to have lived such a long life with potentially more years to come. Newer challenges will come as you get older, but try to remain as youthful and as happy as you can be. You may need some help if you feel depressed when your birthday comes. Regardless, never lose happiness as you get older. Look at birthdays much the same way you think of the new year- it's a new year of you making the most of the next full year of your life even as you look back at your past. Having the "birthday blues" is common for when your birthday draws near, but the most important thing to remember is that you have the rest of your life ahead of you. So savor each day and never lose focus of continuing to live life the best way you can.

Even the Best Fail

John B. Marine | October 31, 2019 | | | Be the first to comment!
Can you be the best at something or seen as the best, yet still fail? Are the best entities failures because they are not supposed to lose? The 2019 Houston Astros are an example of being great, yet still failing. They lost to the Washington Nationals in an insane seven-game 2019 World Series. While I am depressed over the Astros failing to become champions, I felt this was an opportunity to offer some guidance to those who may feel as bad as the 2019 Houston Astros did in failing to become champions. So welcome to this post on "John's Life Space" regarding how to deal with failure when you have lofty expectations or are seen as the best in any given field. Let's go!

Life Lessons: Even the Best Fail

I am going to use a recent example to help prove the points I want to make in this blog post.

Even the Best Fail: The 2019 Houston Astros.

The 2019 Houston Astros were a team that had broken lots of records and has had one of their best seasons ever. They notched up 107 wins out a 162-game regular season of Major League Baseball. They would win the Western division of the American League as well as home advantage throughout the postseason. They would also defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in five games of the American League Divisional Series. They would defeat the New York Yankees in six games in the American League Championship Series to advance to the World Series. So to many people, the Astros should be favored to win the championship, right? They were... but they failed at immortality. Rather than get their second championship within three years, the team whose campaign was "Never Settle" had to settle for seeing the Washington Nationals win the 2019 World Series in a seven-game marathon.

The sad reality is that nobody remembers you or cares about you if you fail to win the top prize of a profession or anything else in life. So the 2019 Astros' season feels more like a failure in that something this good falls short of winning the ultimate prize. You work absolutely hard to try to accomplish something you put your heart and soul into. When it comes that you failed at reaching the top, you feel defeated, and you feel like all your hard work goes for nothing. Fact is...

Even the best fail.

If we all train ourselves to be at our best yet still come up short, are we REALLY the best at what we do? Do we try to be as foolproof as possible so that we don't even think about failure? Or do we just fail despite being so vastly trained? Even you will fail if you consider yourself the best at something. Think of people in entertainment who have tried to win awards for their work in television and media and come up short.

I can tell you as someone who watches lots of sports, absolute favorites end up losing. It's a part of life. Something will make the best people and teams crack. If you go through life thinking nothing can stop you and that is is a foregone conclusion you will win in life; then you have already lost the battle, especially in thinking you can't be stopped. What happens WHEN you lose when you think and act like you're the best? You feel defeated. When we have this "championship or bust" mentality, the best are SUPPOSED to deliver a title; or otherwise, the entire season will be a failure. This just means incredible (and sometimes unnecessary) pressure like you won't believe as well as lofty expectations. Like, there is no reason why you should fail to win a championship considering the talent you possess.

This is why I don't believe in expectations or think prematurely that the best will always win. I can't tell you how defeated and depressed I was when I saw my Houston Astros lose to the Washington Nationals in Game 7 of the 2019 World Series. All the glory goes to the team who wins, and the team who fails is usually just an afterthought. Few care about who loses because we are a people who praise winners. A lot of us don't even believe in moral victories. You either succeed in your given field, or be content with being the bridesmaid (as opposed to being the bride).

Maybe you are a parent or someone trying to make others better. If you tried all you could for that person to succeed and still fail, you did all you could to get someone to be at his/her best. There are just some moments where someone simply is not going to be the best at everything. Perhaps that person can try harder to be better prepared for things, but it may not eventually work out in the end.

Recovering When the Best Fail.

If you feel you are the best or if you are trusted in being the very best at something, and when you fail at trying to achieve victory, you feel defeated. Anyone or anything that seems unbeatable will eventually crack. It is natural to feel disappointed you did not reach your goal(s). It is even natural to feel like you've let down people who believed in you and felt you had the best opportunity to do something amazing. However, it is not the end of the world just because you failed at being the best. Even some of the finest have had to deal with second best and failure. YOU WILL FAIL. How you handle failure, though, will help you in trying to make yourself better.

Failure is something that should make you stronger. Either you can learn from your failures to try to be better for the future, or you can let failure consume you and define you for a long while or even the rest of your life. While failure is tough to accept, it is a part of life. Even I have had my fair share of low moments in grade school and in college. I hated knowing I failed a class or a test, and then having to show my parents and my family just how much I was not as good as I could be. Regardless, I kept going for better or worse.

Also, you are not a failure just because you are seen as the best (or at least the most capable) yet still come up short. It just means someone or something found a way to defeat you or make you fall short of accomplishing an ultimate goal. You can't let failure bring you down. You may have to live with failure, but you shouldn't let it ruin you. One thing you can do is to look at all of your positive qualities and celebrate small victories. Some people aren't even fortunate enough to feel good about themselves once they fail. People do want to be their best and be considered the best, but think about all the people who wish they could be as successful as you are and what some would be willing to do to make it happen. Especially in something like sports, you're going to win and lose a lot. Letting failure define you only makes you feel unable to ever be the best. Try taking your best qualities and knowing what it takes to be at your best and try to do better at something.

Sometimes, luck will bring you down. Some believe it is better to be lucky than good. Some entities can simply endure a time where they enter some kind of funk when they are supposed to be favorites and fully capable of accomplishing any task. I can think of sports teams who simply get exhausted or enter some kind of futility that eventually leads to their downfall. It happens. The goal here is to try to work around those times of futility and make the most with what you have. Maybe you being the best just means you come into a time where times are slow and you face something hot or talented that brings you down. So while you are trained to be the best, you sometimes need luck to ensure you will accomplish your goals. Do not rely on luck- just have it as "insurance" for you and your goals.

Final Thoughts.

Everyone should train and work towards being the best at anything and everything people set their best efforts to. When you are at your best and still fail, you have to keep working towards being being your best. Maybe you are NOT the best or at a best level. What you can do in that time is to not beat yourself up over your failures. Use failure as motivation to do better the next time you face a certain situation or the next time you have a chance to accomplish your goal(s). Even those who have struggled to eventually become successful have had to deal with failure after failure. Sometimes, your best is not good enough because of other talent or even luck. The biggest failure of all is being or feeling like you are destined for greatness and feeling as if you can not be stopped. Something WILL stop you in the end to prevent you from being the absolute best. Keep trying and don't give up on your dreams if you know you can be the best. Living with failure is tough, but finding ways to remain the best even on your worst days is paramount to your success as a whole. You owe it to yourself to work towards and become "the best version of yourself."

Helpful Resources Salute

John B. Marine | September 27, 2019 | Be the first to comment!
Thank you for making my "Helpful Resources" so popular! I felt the need to try to provide online resources to better help others online besides my own blog posts on "John's Life Space." So I set up the Helpful Resources to make this vision happen. For this blog post, I felt the need to explain the Helpful Resources I show on John's Life Space. So allow me to do just that.

Helpful Resources

Let me explain what got me into creating these helpful resources.

Creating the Concept of Helpful Resources.

I was always under the impression that people often use the Internet mostly for procuring material illegally, the garden variety of memes and trolling, and lewd adult material. I get so disgusted and jaded that people use cyberspace as a means of continually depressing others with such content. Rather than add to the usual tomfoolery, I decided to do something about it by offering material people can actually use.

Even in the opening for my Helpful Resources page, "there is already enough negative and hurtful online media; why not some helpful online media for a change?" I felt I needed to offer various resources for people who may be hurting or need some help in their lives. So I developed a series of finding material based on various life issues. I want people to be able to find various resources to help them out with whatever life issues people face.

As much as we use cyberspace for entertainment consumption, we can equally use that same cyberspace to help live better lives. So I make sure to find as many different resources as possible to help this cause. I sometimes get e-Mail inquiries about certain resources people have put together and want to be featured in my Helpful Resources page. This means people find my page so useful that they want to offer their own relevant material to others. I often am commended for bring up issues of cyberbullying and providing material to help keep individuals safe online. In fact, most people whom have suggested I add extra resources mostly enjoyed my blog post on "John's Blog Space" regarding cyberbullying. The last person to suggest a resource on something other than cyberbullying or online security wanted me to include a resource for LGBT youth in school/college.

Sometimes, people tell me to remove certain resources simply because they don't exist or that links are broken. That's cool too. I often post how accurate everything is as of a certain date. So it is possible that a once-available resource may no longer exist or may go under a newer URL. Be sure to check the line regarding how accurate the links are in my Helpful Resources page. I update that page regularly to ensure all or most material posted on that Helpful Resources page is accurate.

The Overall Goal of Helpful Resources.

I link to these resources because I want people to find help with whatever life issues they are facing. I am sick of seeing and experiencing constant depression or always being disgusted with mostly negative material. I want to be part of a solution; not the problem. So you are certainly thankful I have made my own contribution to this cause.

Offering Thanks.

Thank you for your support! I am glad I am able to provide material that will surely be of help to others who may be facing any number of issues in life. I am also pleased others believe in my own work that they want their resources to be featured among the many I've tried to find to help out other people.

But Don't Forget...

...I run a pretty nice blog regarding help for life issues! You're reading that blog right now! "John's Life Space" is all about trying to offer help to people regarding a handful of various life issues. I even sort of diversified the various issues I discuss. As an example, I introduced some elements such as financial health, health and exercise, and things like that. Not many people visit most blogs devoted to things like life issues. Really, I care more about helping others than trying to make certain blogs as beasts of SEO and ROI and other material of that nature. If I didn't care about trying to offer some sort of positive material for people to use, I wouldn't go to such lengths to provide such advice. So be sure to use my material to help make your own life better.

One More Time...

Just want to say one last time:

Thank you very much!

I am glad people like you find my work and effort worth it. It is always a joy knowing I am changing the world for the better, or at least making small strides towards making life better. Life is never easy or fair. We can only do so much to be and feel happy. All I can do is help those who may need certain guidance.

If you want a handful of resources I've found for various life issues, please visit my Helpful Resources page here: Helpful Resources (John's Life Space).

"John's Life Space" may be devoid of incredible popularity, but I am glad people have found some use for this blog. I want my Helpful Resources as well as my regular blog posts to be of some help to everyone who visits. So thank you for making my Helpful Resources page popular and useful. Now if only more people can get engaged in my regular blog posts on "John's Life Space." Other than that, thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Your True Emotions

John B. Marine | September 27, 2019 | | | | | Be the first to comment!
How are you doing? You're doing great? Good! Are you saying that because you actually are doing great or because you are hiding your true feelings? Admit it- you are probably hurting inside and don't want to share your true emotions. Maybe you feel you will get treated differently because you are hiding something that will draw a negative reaction. What you say and who you talk to will draw different reactions from others. So you are very careful as to what you actually tell people. Sometimes, the death of a certain individual or getting out of the shadow of some people will allow you to better express your emotions and your own true feelings. No matter what, this blog post is all about showcasing your true emotions. What holds us back in showing how we really feel? Does it hurt to show our true emotions? I will attempt to address both of these matters in this blog post.

Your True Emotions

Everyone has emotions, and everyone chooses to express themselves any way they choose. This is true whether you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert. How you deal with such emotions determines on how you handle your true emotions. Let's talk to some extent about your true emotions and whether or not (and how) to exhibit your true emotions.

Why Do We Hide Our True Emotions?

There are a number of reasons why we tend not to share our emotions with others. For one, we may not trust some people we are around to share our issues. It is possible some people will do nothing more than exploit and expose our issues rather than try to help treat certain issues. It is also possible that someone who has actual issues may not get the needed help with their problems with some people he/she is around. Rather than feeling someone will get the needed help with their issues from individuals around him/her, the person would rather just keep their emotions in. Therefore, people are not so reluctant to share their true feelings to some people.

It is also true certain emotions we have will make us seem weak in the face of others. Like, someone who is fussy and whiny will be seen as a "pussy" to some people. If someone really feels down and wants to be better, they need to be with people who feel they can trust to feel better. So being able to share your true emotions can be a very important thing to help you feel better. You know you are hurting inside for real if you tell people you are doing just fine. Even if you try to sell being something you are not, you may end up doing more damage than feeling your best.

While choosing to keep in emotions from people we know and love, the emotions can fester into something where it breaks people down slowly. Therefore, it is important to...

Let It All Hang Out!

Keeping in your emotions can be unhealthy. It adds extra stress to try to keep in your emotions rather than let them out. Even if your emotions are violent or toxic, you have to let out your emotions so that they don't slowly deteriorate your life and livelihood. So it is best you let someone know you are not feeling good if you are truly not your best state of mind. Allow yourself to be patient to get whatever kind of guidance or help needed. Even if the needed help is for something comical or something more serious, people need to be stable again regardless of whatever bothers that person.

I am reminded of a fashion blogger whom I've followed for a number of years when discussing this topic. She experienced a situation earlier this year that led her to feeling down on herself and facing some tough decisions on how to go about life after this incident. This blogger even adopted swearing and using some bad language. Though she is generally classy, this fashion blogger felt the need to use such bad language simply to let out her emotions. All this is about is trying to let out your emotions in a healthy way... even if it involves having certain characteristics you are not known for having.

Should You Exhibit Your True Emotions to Others?

Some people will find the perfect moment to explain true emotions one has. Some people will not want to share how they truly feel unless the time is right or unless they feel they must immediately share their feelings with others. It is always better to share your feelings rather than keep them in for an extended amount of time.

After Sharing True Emotions... Now What?

If it is something that prompts change or immediate action, this is a time to work with someone and gain some sort of understanding. If someone was sincere about whatever has bothered an individual, this is a chance to understand and work with someone to help that person feel better. Be attentive and understanding. Especially if someone needs help, it is best to try to work with that person to try to help sort out whatever issues the individual may be having.

What If You Have No One to Share Emotions With?

You may be alone and have certain issues you have in you. If there is no one to help you share your emotions with, you are probably on your own to try to deal with your own issues. You may need to consult healthcare professionals or other qualified individuals if you are in crisis or in need of some help with your emotions. Perhaps you may need to engage in online counseling and online therapy. Regardless, we always say that you are not alone.

I now want to focus on individual situations.

Your True Emotions in Various Situations

Here is a closer look at expressing yourself with various talking points. Some of these issues could be expressed better in

Room to Vent.

Even if people have emotions that you fail to understand or care about sharing, you have to find some sort of medium to share emotions. Some people share their real feelings in person or on social media. People need to vent often times.

Parent-Sibling Feelings.

A parent may be frustrated with his/her child(ren) that the parent wants to have a talk with his/her child(ren). Wanting to show those emotions to children has to be done in a healthy way so that one doesn't end up harming the child(ren) for a long time. Something to be fearful of is to not get overly violent trying to get your message across to children. If discipline is called for, make sure not to get abusive or violent with children. Some parents often overstep their boundaries and start spanking or getting emotionally into their children. Be careful of this and remember- those children have the rest of their lives ahead of them, and you wouldn't want to jeopardize their future in a negative sense.

On the other hand, a child may be frustrated with his/her parent(s) that the child wants to share his/her true feelings to his/her parents. Some children actually feel their parents are not real parents. For example, one child may feel a certain parent or family member is so hated by that child because that parent or family member was never there for that person. A child may also dislike a family member who possibly treats someone near and dear to the family wrong.

It is imperative to have a healthy bond between parents and siblings to keep families together and happy.

True Love Feelings.

It is possible one's true emotions can involve actually wanting to start a relationship or engage in some sort of romantic activity. As much as I've shown off true feelings among others, this is a more different scenario. Someone's true love feelings with someone he/she loves can mean the person wants to start a family or wants to be romantically involved with his/her partner. If it comes down to wanting to strengthen a loving bond, activities need to be planned. Perhaps start dating more or start enjoying entertainment more together. If true emotions involve intimacy with someone, arrange for a time to actually get intimate with each other.

You probably want to be careful with this, because there is a chance you could really creep somebody out if you have certain loving feelings or romantic interests with others. Not everyone will accept your romantic feelings you may have for someone. Some others may want nothing to do with you ever again. So be careful expressing these emotions to some people if you honestly and truly have any sort of romantic interest that won't escalate to something like date rape, domestic violence, or anything.

LGBT+ Emotions.

This topic involves a handful of emotions and thoughts. Someone may truly want to engage in some sort of LGBT love or intimacy. A person may have kept in feelings of wanting to date or possibly marry a same-sex partner. Someone may secretly want to engage in crossdressing. Someone else in LGBT possibly has feelings of wanting to have a sex change. These emotions can be as gripping as almost any other emotions that are kept in by others. Trying to release these emotions and trying to be understood for them can be a daunting task. It is also possible people could hurt or destroy certain bonds with others because of LGBT concerns. Even though LGBT matters have become more acceptable in recent years than in the past, there are still many people who have all sorts of animosity and hate towards anything LGBT or LGBT related. Acceptance is not as easy with these matters as with any other.

True emotions can also mean you exhibit behavior outside of gender norms or if you act in ways different from what society considers normal or sane for males and females alike. A male may be someone who enjoys things normally females enjoy, or they may even identify and act as females. That male may still mostly be a male but enjoy certain female things. Likewise, there are a number of females who mostly like what a lot of males do. Some females would even prefer dressing masculine rather than wear things like high heels, dresses and skirts, makeup, or things like that. Such females would then enjoy being tomboys. Also, there are males and females alike who have so many different traits that they feel they do not entirely fall under being all-male or all-female. So enter the genderqueer or gender neutral individual. After all, there are males who wear pink and like all things cute and/or beautiful. There are females who enjoy wearing girly clothing but not afraid to get into intense sports playing or taking on difficult occupations like construction working. Some such people do not have someone to really share such emotions with often times.

LGBT matters involving gender can be a loaded subject. Most people would cringe at the thought of a male wanting to wear lingerie, skirts and dresses, lipstick, and things like that. Some males and females feel they were born in the wrong body or have some other kind of gender dysphoria. Especially in the case of being transgender, it can be tough to exhibit trying to be someone different. It isn't as easy as going to your favorite retail store and buy clothing opposite of your birth gender.

Time now for some final thoughts.

Your True Emotions: Final Thoughts

It is best to truly tell people how you really feel, even if you do not entirely trust you will get the sort of reaction from other people. You are better off letting your emotions out rather than bottle them inside of you. This is stress relief that can often times be a call to action or a cry for help. Releasing these emotions can make a vast difference moving forward no matter what emotions are being stored in. If there is no one who can help you with your true emotions, you may need to find some sort of counseling with healthcare professionals or other qualified individuals.

Once such emotions are released, it is best to try to be patient in trying to help someone feel better. It takes understanding and care to help someone deal with their issues. Don't compound or worsen the situation by being hateful and mean to that person. People have aspirations, dreams, and have some sort of livelihood. Let us try to preserve these elements for the betterment of others rather than damage or destroy them.

Try to share your emotions in positive and healthy ways if you can with others. If you need help or some sort of consolation, make sure to find loving and trusting people to help you feel better.

A person who admits weakness or has a number of mental-related issues is someone who may be willing or wanting to seek help. Some people, though, do not know where to start or who to look to. Not everyone can deal with any sort of mental pain on their own. If a call for help is requested, it is best to try to get the needed help any way possible to avoid being broken down substantially and progressively in the future. It is therefore a big issue to try to help certain individuals who may be ailing in the mental health department.

When I say "mental health issues," those issues in question can range from comical matters to more serious ones. Someone may simply be having some bad times and some bad days as an example of mental health issues. One person may have episodes of depression that lead to lowered self-esteem or being unable to think positively. That too can be a sign of some mental ailment(s) a person may be facing. If someone doesn't feel right mentally, it can lead to a number of problems that can range from poor health habits (such as overeating) or even increased hostility and anger. Some people admit they need help; some others may actually need help even if they do not show or want to be helped. It is best to try to get people to turn things around in time before it is too late.

Certain mental problems have certain levels. Even something comical can lead to someone being mentally unstable. For example, someone may be upset his/her favorite sports team lost a game or let a significant lead get choked away to a loss. This can be quite comical to many people. However, some may take even the smallest negatives too seriously to where someone starts breaking down mentally. The smallest and most insignificant things can lead to someone potentially heading down a path of poor mental health. Likewise, someone may have more serious mental health matters- such as having post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you or someone/something else does not intervene, there could be a great deal of trouble down the road for that person. So begins the process to try to help someone heal in such tough times.

Starting the Mental Healing Process.

The first thing to note is that anyone with any sort of mental issues are NOT failures. The last thing someone who is already ailing is to feel even worse- as if the specific person is any failure in life or society. People who are down in such senses should not be laughed at or regarded as lesser life forms because of their status of having poor mental health. These are people who want to become (for lack of a better term) the best version of themselves. When people do not feel like garbage or be treated like garbage, people can feel better about themselves regardless of whatever circumstances they may face. Henceforth, the first step in trying to help others feel better is to simply take in what a person is going through and try to offer your assistance where you can.

If certain mental health issues further fester, people can start to becoming either truly depressed or even be reluctant to harm themselves or other people. Some people with certain mental health issues may become hostile and want to either injure or kill oneself or other people. Even some individuals responsible for incidents of mass shootings or any sort of mass violence have had certain mental health issues that led them to hurt or kill many people. Mental health is therefore a very serious subject. People who may be suffering mentally could have only so long before something disastrous could happen to themselves or to others. It is therefore critical that intervention of some kind must materialize before any worst-case scenario occurs.

It is time I offer piece-by-piece advice to help aid in people getting help with their mental issues. Please go to the next section...

Mental Health Care: Key Concepts

To help with the process of helping others feel better about their mental health, I have broken down my own advice into a few key pieces. It takes all of the following to really help people who may be suffering mentally. The prerequisites here include a mentally ailing person who must first admit to having such mental health issues, and a person willing to help must be able to provide facilities and care to try to help a mentally ailing person out to live better and happier. So please follow each heading and heed the advice to help make others' lives better.

Mental Health Care: Acknowledge.

The first step in helping someone feel better is to acknowledge someone is having some issues or may have some issues. Even a person who doesn't directly say he/she has some mental health issues, at least sensing someone is even remotely having such troubles should at least be recognized for it. Even if the person does not ask for help or feels like he/she needs help, at least recognize help is needed for someone.

Mental Health Care: Listen.

Communication is important in a situation involving helping someone with mental health issues. If someone honestly has any sort of mental health issues impacting his/her life, let this person share what has happened or is happening in his/her life. One's ability to open up is a showing of strength, as that person is letting go of a burden that is hampering one's life. Make sure to hear out what someone is going through. If possible, even ask questions to try to get the whole story.

Mental Health Care: Understand.

A person may actually be hurting and turns to you for advice and guidance. Rather than look at a person as a failure or as someone incredibly weak, understand this person is in a down state and is seeking any sort of help on offer. Try to understand a person's issues to hopefully offer something valuable in helping someone feel better. Do not try to complicate one's issues further being being generally mean and fussy at someone- these actions just makes a person's problems greater. I always like to say, "you do not solve problems by adding to them." So if you don't feel qualified or understanding enough to help someone out, then do not attempt to offer solid advice or provide anything useful or helpful. If you really do care about someone and want someone to be better, you have to work with that person and understand what one is going through and how that person is dealing with some situations in life.

Mental Health Care: Care.

The next element is in the care itself. Once a person admits to having certain mental health issues and once that person's issues are understood, then begins the process of trying to care for that person. It does not have to be constant contact and continuous contact, but regularly be attentive and aware of what a person is going through. Try to offer advice or try to help a person feel better any way you can. Even if you are not the most capable to help someone with their mental health issues, at least try. Someone is better off getting some sort of decent help rather than having no help at all. Everyone deserves to live happily and feel good. Offer anything you can to try to get people to feel better mentally.

Mental Health Care: Patience.

Finally, and most importantly, it takes patience to help those with mental health issues. The patience comes from not only the person suffering, but also from the person/people who help out such individuals. It is not likely one's mental health issues will be resolved overnight. Someone's issues may take seconds, days, or even years to be resolved. You still need to be in it for the long haul to get someone to feel better mentally.

There are the key concepts: acknowledge, listen, understand, care, and patience.

Mental Health Care: Final Thoughts

If someone is having certain mental health issues, you can do a lot to help someone get back on track and feel better. The process may take some time, but anything to help people feel better while in such a weakened mental state is certainly worth trying to help. A person can ultimately feel better if that person is willing to want help, and also if you are capable enough to try to help someone feel mentally better. I defined the healing process under five concepts: acknowledge, listen, understand, care, and patience. Everyone deserves to feel better and live happier. You can do a lot to help people who may be facing some sort of mental health issues. Even if you are not the best at giving advice or offering sufficient help, you can at least play a part in helping someone overcome their issues rather than let those mental health issues fester into something toxic and dangerous. Everyone deserves to live the best possible life and enjoy all life has to offer. One would rather get the needed help rather than have to live with mental pain for the rest of his/her life.

Having said all of this. I wish all of you well in trying to help people overcome various mental health issues.

Mental health. Make the discussion.

One thing I haven't mentioned, though completely obvious, is that people with more serious cases of mental health or in crisis should seek help from healthcare professionals or certain qualified individuals. That is the information I put in my disclaimer here on "John's Life Space." All I can do is offer advice to help people deal with certain situations. While my advice may not be the best, it is far from being the worst. I can only do so much to try to provide hope and promise in the darkest of times. I hope you can appreciate my efforts nonetheless. On this note, I will end this blog post. Good luck to you trying to help other people as well as helping certain mentally ailing people get the needed help to turn their lives around for the better. Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Is Life a Race Against Time?

John B. Marine | August 20, 2019 | | Be the first to comment!
We do not live very long. Therefore, some aspects of life seem like we are racing to get as many things in our lives done before eventually dying. So it seems like we want to accomplish as much as possible while still alive. Some people, though, can sometimes feel a lot of their life has passed by because of squandering on certain life opportunities. There are also those who feel they waited too long in their lives to accomplish something, such as dating, getting married, or having children. This begs the question- is life a race against time?

The only reason why someone would think doing something before death is if one feels time is limited and that some opportunities don't come around often. It also pertains to people who feel they won't live too much longer and feel like they HAVE to experience something while still fairly young. How reluctant, however, are you to try to experience certain things or accomplish certain things quickly? No one truly knows how long they will REALLY live. Making the most of what time you do have is crucial, though you shouldn't stress certain things on your bucket list.

Maybe someone who takes life as being a race against time means they have to be in a rush to experience whatever they want to experience in their lives. This only adds stress and make you feel a lot less accomplished should you be unable to accomplish whatever you want. The best thing you can do is take your time and not become too focused on certain tasks you find important. Unless you truly feel like you know how much longer you have to live, you shouldn't have to stress too much on things.

Long story short... take your time. Live the best life you can accomplishing as much as you like. Life is not about accomplishing everything in the shortest amount of time. You have plenty of your life ahead of you for certain things you want to accomplish. Just don't feel you have to jam everything in a short amount of time. Don't pressure yourself any more than whatever pressure exists in your life at present.

This will be the end of this post. I hope you can take away a lot from this post.

Do you think life is a race against time? If so, of what importance do you find accomplishing certain tasks within a certain lifetime?

Thank you for reading! Take care and be well.

Enjoying School or College

John B. Marine | August 06, 2019 | | | | Be the first to comment!
Going to school or college/university is an excellent opportunity to prepare yourself for the future. You get to learn new things, meet new people, and see the world. Despite this, some hate school. I figure for this blog post, I will try to offer some suggestions for which to help you enjoy school. These are not the best thoughts, but more like my own thoughts. So let's begin!

Before I Begin...

I mostly will refer to this topic as doing well in school. However, this can also apply to college/university students as well. So I will mention both sides in this blog post.

Enjoying School

Why do we enroll in school or college/university? It is because are trying to better ourselves while also learning certain things to help us right now and for the future. School is a chance to meet new people. Most of all, it is also an opportunity to see the world and interact. As intriguing as all of this sounds, most people admit they do not like school. Some people even don't enjoy learning. Some others don't feel the motivation to wake up and dress up for school or college. I personally admit I was never a good student back in my days in school and college. Despite that, I still knew there was great importance in doing well in school and college.

Most people would rather sleep all day, stay at home, watch their favorite TV shows, listen to their favorite music, and things like that. We tend to look at school in ways other than having the opportunity to better ourselves or meet new people. One must never pass up the opportunity to improve. No matter what your favorite hobbies are, your favorite hobbies and programs aren't going anywhere. You have to have a sense of priorities when it comes to work and play. While you'd rather relax, it is better you endure the rigors of school to make yourself a better person. School prepares you for life. It helps you to think about having a prosperous future rather than be a failure of society. Some people highly value education and learning.

If going to a proper school isn't good enough, there is the option of home schooling. Either home schooling is a way of getting a quality education while not having to go out into the world, or it is a way to get a great education when trying to blend in with society has failed. It is also possible one could be a special needs student that may not be as fortunate to be part of a general school audience and may therefore be home schooled a lot. Either way, there are options involved trying to learn from home for those who take part in home schooling.

Worst Cases of Not Enjoying School.

There are more serious cases of not enjoying school/college that can be damaging to one's life. Some people who really dislike school often engage in acts detrimental to them being successful in life and having less of a chance of landing a successful career or getting better jobs. Some who dislike school often skip class or even skip school altogether. Some could constantly get into trouble for not dressing according to dress code, constantly talking and interrupting class while in session, engage in fights with other students, and at the worst... even have disputes with teachers and faculty. These are more extreme cases in which school is not about school. Instead, this is a case where enjoying school does not mean anything to where students feel they are going to school simply to get out of the house and not do anything to make themselves better through the means of school. These can frustrate parents and relatives seeing their children do so poorly in school or not be better than they could be in school.

So how can we help others enjoy school? I will offer advice in the next section.

Tips to Enjoy School

How can we help others enjoy school? I can not help you with your situation if you hate school. However, I can offer a few tips to help you enjoy school. So here are some pieces of advice from me...

Enjoying School: Educational Opportunities.

If there is one thing about trying to enjoy school, it is in trying to make learning enjoyable. The traditional style of learning can yield only so much success in trying to learn. That is why we have entertaining methods and alternative ways to try to teach things to others. For example, I would watch "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" in my youth to enhance my geography skills. I also liked "Bill Nye: The Science Guy" in my youth to learn science. When trying to make education enjoyable was tough by simply going to class, there had to be other ways to try to accomplish learning and wanting to learn. This is something you have to want to commit to learning and then apply that want to your schooling.

Maybe the biggest barrier to school or college/university is to simply enjoy learning and wanting to learn. If you are going to be part of the experience, it helps to have methods to try to enhance your learning. Maybe this can be done by trying to find ways to make learning fun. If you are a parent, try to make learning something understandable to your children. Making learning easy and fun can help children to understand things better. For older types, it can be a bit tough since you are on your own to learn things in unique ways. What learning methods may work for children may not work for adolescents. The learning process is still the same and so should the willingness to learn. If you are taking on subjects or topics you are not good with or enjoy, you will have to do what you can to try to make the subject matter interesting. I can recall in Ninth Grade English that I had an advantage when we were learning The Odyssey, because I had some experience with Greek Mythology. I took advantage of this to eventually pass 9th Grade English.

If you are home schooled, your parents will need to help make sure you not only get involved in the learning process, but also in testing what you learn at home. So enjoying school gets to be a bit tougher when you are home schooled. Home schooling does not grant you a lot of the freedoms and experiences normal schooling provides.

While school may not be as fun as it could be, you still need to get yourself to savor the opportunity of making yourself better and more educated by any such means. You have to develop a willingness to learn and understand the positive results of your educational journey. These are the first steps of wanting to enjoy school.

Enjoying School: Meeting People.

One of the other things about school or college/university is in meeting new people. These new people can help you with your school work or even become your best friends. You also get to meet teachers and instructors who care deeply about getting you to be at your best. It is also possible you can enhance your social skills through meeting others at school. Even if you lack social skills, school can help you to be more sociable and look to people better. Besides meeting people whom can be great friends and solid assistance, there is the negative aspect of meeting people who may not like you or care about you. That is the way of life- you will meet people you will love and hate. At least the concept of meeting new people is helpful towards helping you to build up your social skills as well as help you work better with people. Outside of school, you may find certain individuals whom you may even have as best friends or even as a lover.

I must admit I was never really good at working with others. Either my ideas were not as approving as others in groups, or I simply preferred being on my own. Maybe there were times where I had a tough time dealing with people ranging from those who hated me to those who always saw me as a pain in the (you-know-what). You are going to deal with people whom you like and those you will loathe. Regardless, there has to be some sense of community, and you have to develop some sort of willingness to work with people. You may also find you will work very well with certain individuals and grow a special bond to help other people in your classes perform at their best. Imagine yourself helping your peers do better in school!

It will be tough meeting people when you're home schooled. For some, being home schooled is a way of focusing more on learning things while not being able to meet other people. Or maybe home schooling is simply to get into learning while not being able to connect with other people outside of home for help with your schooling.

Take advantage of the opportunity to meet new people while in school/college. Try to make yourself sociable and helpful towards your peers. Do not try to be everyone's best friend. Instead, try to associate yourself with like minds and with those whom interests are more in line with what you want out of learning and more. Try to build chemistry with others to help make learning more fun and even to have as good friends or even lovers (but still concentrate on school!).

Enjoying School: See the World.

Rather than just leaving the house, you have a chance to go to places to help you see the world and get engaged in any number of activities to help enhance your skills. Here in Houston, I used to enjoy going to places like the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Space Center Houston. These helped me to see the world as well as learn new things in new ways. Enjoy field trip moments when you are a student! As a college student, you may even get to take part in studying abroad. You can enjoy being in new places and taking part in new adventures. This will help you to learn better as well as getting more exposure to the world.

Seeing the world can be a lot different if home schooled. Your options of going out to great places and having fun can be limited if mostly home schooled. For example, going to a museum or a music concert may not be as possible to fund if you wanted to gain more exposure to something or enrich your mind. They are still things to consider to help enhance the learning experience.

Any chance you have to enhance your learning through visiting other places, take advantage of these moments. Let yourself become a better learner by taking part in various out-of-school or out-of-college activities and places. See the world while also enhancing your educational experiences!

I want to offer some final thoughts from everything you have read so far. So please take a look at the next section.

Enjoying School: Final Thoughts

School/College and learning is not fun to a lot of people. School feels more like chores rather than something that can be fun and worthwhile. As the saying goes, "it is a tough job, but somebody's got to do it." Your parents will want you to go to school to prepare yourself for life and learn things your parents may not be able to teach you. You have to get yourself to learn things rather than have someone force you to learn something. The school experience should be about a willingness to learn while also being able to meet new people and see the world. Even if you do not enjoy school particularly, at least enjoy the prospect of trying to make yourself better for the future. While in school, you will need to develop these habits to become better in life. So anything you can do to help make school more enjoyable should be taken advantage of to help make yourself better for years to come and to land jobs and have great careers.

Throughout this blog post, you may have noted that I mentioned home schooling. While home schooling takes away a lot of going to school environments and having many of the school experiences, home schooling still isn't devoid of the learning experience. You still can get the proper learning experience even if you are not out and about trying to learn. You still need to do what it takes to properly learn even when not at a proper school or college.

Even though I graduated from High School dead last among my seniors yet still be Most Improved Student, I am in no way any role model or example of success. I failed a lot of subjects and did not particularly feel I am an amazing student. While I did not feel too motivated to be my best, I still managed to get myself an Associates in the Arts in my college days. You do not have to be a good student to enjoy school. All it takes is wanting to learn and then pushing yourself to prepare yourself for life and greater opportunities. You don't have to be perfect or even a good student- all you need is to find ways to enjoy school and learning to be your absolute best in life and beyond.

Complicated Relationships

John B. Marine | July 29, 2019 | | Be the first to comment!
Complicated relationships suggest a couple is in love, but the partners are not completely happy all the time. A complicated relationship is where a couple is together and love each other, but don't always see eye-to-eye on things. It is almost as if one expects a complicated couple are only one incident away from completely breaking up or divorcing (among married couples). Naturally, any couple will have moments of love and happiness... and then moments of hate and argument. Thing is... are the disagreements happening more often than the happy moments? If so, then something has to be done to make sure already bad times don't get worse. What no couple ever wants is for things to reach levels of violence. That violence includes physical violence or any kind of mental or verbal abuse.

NOTE: I am no relationship expert. The advice offered is mostly opinion-based. Consult a proper professional on relationship matters if you are in crisis with relationship-related matters.

Complicated Relationships

I will set the mood of this blog post with a picture. Here goes...

complicated relationships
^ from: (Slism) - You may be in a complicated relationship if you are in love with someone but constantly have issues being totally happy with your partner/spouse.

When some people disclose their relationship status on social media, you may have seen "it's complicated." It means that a couple loves each other, but there are times when a couple spends more time arguing or have a tough time unconditionally loving each other. Arguments and disagreements are natural in every relationship. However, when you face a complicated relationship, the love you share with your partner is shoddy at best. If such complicated relationships aren't improved or saved, a couple could be heading towards breaking up. A complicated marriage may teeter towards divorce. Whatever the case, complicated relationships need a number of things to save a relationship from being more troubled than they could be.

Complicated Relationships Among Parents.

A complicated relationship involving parents or relatives can be damaging. One may find oneself fearing parents could be in crisis in the case of a complicated relationship. You fear you will be alone if your parents break up from a complicated relationships. Or maybe there will be a single parent taking care of you.

How to Improve a Complicated Relationship?

Any number of factors can determine if a complicated relationship needs some saving.

• If the complication is caused by some sort of infidelity (such as cheating), then either a couple can try to work things out on their own or maybe seek a relationship expert. It is perhaps the best practice to seek help from a relationship expert, a marriage counselor, or some other qualified professional in this matter.

• It is probably best to try to do some fun (and even romantic) things together to try to keep the bond strong.

• While it may not lead to a positive outcome, a complicated relationship can be improved by having your fair share of talks and arguments. Get any would-be problems negotiated to try to move on from whatever transgressions you are facing as a couple. Just make sure to not let the talks reach violent levels.

• If you tried everything to improve a relationship, simply break up or go on some romantic break. If married, you may face the option of divorce. Breaking up and divorce may have different avenues, and either option can be both mentally and financially draining. So be sure to have plans in place should you go the route of breaking up or divorce (if married).

I will offer some final thoughts now. Please go to the next section.

Complicated Relationships: Final Thoughts

Couples love each other for the most part. Couples will argue and have disagreements. When disagreements become too numerous and often, this complicates relationships. To maintain a healthy relationship, it helps for both parties to be able to come together for the most part and not have so many differences among each other. You are not going to agree with everything about your partner. With this said, you need to try to make sure a complicated relationship does not reach any sort of violence. If you tried everything to maintain or repair any rocky relationship, it is perhaps best you break up or divorce (if married). Whatever the case, love works best when a couple are completely happy with each other and do not regularly engage in arguments and disagreements.

Just to say again- please seek help from a qualified professional if you are in crisis with a complicated relationship.
